Protocol/Communications Officer  – Gordon Grant

The Protocol/Communications Office is the central point of contact for all communications for the Musqueam Indian Band, Chief and Council and reports to the Band Manager. The Protocol/Communications officer is responsible for developing, implementing, and evaluating communications strategies and programs designed to inform Musqueam Indian Band members, employees and the general public of Musqueam Indian Band Initiatives. As well as develop and maintain ongoing communications and information sharing channels with business, government and other partners. In taking on this new position, the Protocol/Communications Officer is responsible for many important roles, including:

INITIATE AND MAINTAIN MEDIA NETWORKS AND ASSOCIATED PUBLIC RELATIONS NETWORKS
• Initiate contact with local, regional, and national media.
• Serve as the primary contact for media for the Musqueam Indian band and the general public.
• Identify and execute a range of PR opportunities, including identification of media opportunities

DEVELOP PUBLIC RELATIONS OPPORTUNITIES FOR MUSQUEAM
• Create a calendar of public relations opportunities for Musqueam
• Arrange Interviews and news conferences when required.
• Assist with the preparation of briefing materials, speaking notes, and kits for Musqueam representatives

DEVELOP AND IMPLEMENT COMMUNICATIONS STRATEGIES
• Design and evaluate programs to inform Musqueam Indian Band Members as well as general public on Band Initiatives.
• Assist in the preparation of brochures, reports, newsletters, press releases and other materials that are distributed.
• Assist in the organization with invitation mail outs and attendance for and including meetings, events, and open houses

ENSURE MUSQUEAM IS REPRESENTED ACCURATELY
• Arrange for the representatives of the Musqueam Indian Band to attend events as requested
• Develop briefing materials, speaking notes, and kits for Musqueam representatives.
•Take direction from Chief and Council to make sure Musqueam’s traditional protocol procedure is followed.
