UBC Centennial Musqueam House post

 

The Musqueam Indian Band and the University of British Columbia are seeking proposals from Musqueam artist(s) to design, carve and install a cedar carved qeqən (house post) for permanent display on a platform or plinth located in the water feature that runs along University Boulevard from Martha Piper Plaza to East Mall on the UBC Vancouver campus.

The University and Musqueam Indian Band are seeking an experienced, talented Musqueam Nation artist(s) interested in creating a qeqən depicting the sʔi:ɬqəy̓ (double‐headed serpent) story and the origin of the name xʷməθkʷəy̓əm (Musqueam). The location in the water feature and the art is intended to reflect Musqueam culture and bring a spirit and feeling of the Musqueam Community to this area of the UBC campus.

A site visit is planned for Friday, June 5, 2015 at 1 pm. If driving, please meet at the UBC Alumni Centre, 6163 University Boulevard, Vancouver, BC V6T 1Z1.If you need a ride, please meet at the Musqueam Band office parking lot at 12:45.
